Family-run hotel for over 100 years
Eikum Hotel was started by Brita and Per Eikum in 1919. The hotel then had two beds, the price of a cup of coffee and two large cakes was 0.25 øre, and a dinner cost 0.50 øre.
In 1922, the first foreign tourists came to the hotel, and there were 3 Englishmen: a general and two colonels.
The hotel rooms were eventually equipped with a washstand with a washing set (pitcher, saucer and soap dish), a potty and toilet bowl inside a cupboard, and two oil lamps. The price for an overnight stay ranged from 75 øre to 1 krone and 25 øre, depending on the standard of the room. The boarding price during the summer season, which included 1 room and 4 meals, was four kroner per day.
This was the brave start of a family hotel that in 2023 will be over 100 years old, started by the current owner, Ståle, his great-grandparents.
4 generations have left their mark on this family business, which has a strong tradition of shuttling tourists in VW buses, Himmelpudding and traditional food, and is located in the middle of the alleyway of the most beautiful attractions in Norway.

Jubilee book
In 2019, the jubilee book was published to mark the hotel's 100th anniversary. The book tells the story from the humble beginnings of renting out two rooms, through a dramatic fire and on to the hotel as we know it today.
The book is written by Frode Olav Haara and published by Selja Forlag.
