The buildings
In 1919, Brita and Per Eikum bought an older house from the neighboring farm Tang, and started a guesthouse, named Eikums Hotel.
In 1927, the hotel changed its name to Eikum Gjestgiveri.
In 1956, the hotel had 15 rooms. That year, the hotel burned to the ground, and the only thing that was saved from the fire was the cash register in the café. The fire also took four other buildings in the city center, including the town hall.
The hotel reopened a year after the fire, in 1957, with 19 rooms and 35 beds.
In the 1970s, the hotel was expanded with a new wing and the old rooms were renovated so that all rooms had showers and toilets.
In 1980, the new dining room was built, with seating for around 200 people. Since then, the hotel has been further expanded and the old rooms have been continuously renovated.
