Hotel car and taxi
Sigmund Kjos-Wenjum, grandfather of Ståle, today's owner, in a familiar pose in the garden at Eikum Hotell around 1966/67. Cars and horses were an important part of grandfather's life, and in the past there was a stable, barn and garage in one and the same building, where the dining room now stands.
The green car in the picture was his taxi and the red car was the hotel car. Both cars were used to take tourists, in addition to another taxi from one of the other taxi owners in the village, either Johannes Fredheim or Olav Hillestad. The tours with tourists went to Jostedalen, Sognefjellet, Tungestølen, the Heiberg collections at Kaupanger, Urnes Stave Church and "Råadn".
Grandfather Sigmund and father Birger drove tourists every day throughout the summer season, to all the attractions in the region. Sometimes the tour also went to "Feivall" at Mollandsmarki, where Mons "Feivall" accompanied the group down to the viewpoint while telling local stories. The Dutch and German tourists were struck dumb with fear and admiration.
I can see from the picture that it is before May 1, because of the gray color of Grandpa's hat. He always changed his driver's hat on May 1 every year. This was to be the case throughout the summer.
