RETROFITTING INSULATION AND REPLACING WINDOWS-GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND GOOD FOR US...
As many of you will have noticed, we have had a lot of construction activity this winter. The reason for this is that we are re-insulating about 70% of the hotel, and the purpose of this is to reduce power consumption and the load on the public energy grid. At Eikum Hotell, we have always been concerned about recycling and taking care of the environment, so this latest measure is another example of our environmental awareness.
As we have done throughout the hotel's 105-year history, this time we are also using local contractors. Hans Nes Bygg is, as usual, responsible for the construction activity, and since November has had 8 craftsmen working, in addition to electricians, painters and two concrete saws.
They have - and will - replace around 55 windows, and the new windows are 3-layered with an u-value of 0.8.
They've also added 20 cm of additional insulation to large parts of the building, so we're now well equipped to withstand another winter with many freezing temperatures... Inside it will be nice and warm!
We have been open throughout the construction period, welcoming overnight guests, Christmas party guests, parties, dinner guests and guests who have attended events and meetings.
All interior work will be completed on April 1, while the garden will be ready by April 23.
