Veitastrond

Tungestølen tourist cabin

The village is surrounded by mighty mountains and peaks, and Jostedalsbreen National Park is the closest neighbor.

Veitastrond is a flat and well-run agricultural village in Luster municipality. The trip to Veitastrond is in itself an experience you will never forget. It's about 30 km from the hotel to the end of the valley. The peace and quiet you find when you arrive has been a worthwhile journey among tourists for several decades.

At Veitastrond you'll also find Austerdalsbreen, an arm of Jostedalsbreen. Austerdalsbreen is a valley glacier with 3 large and steep glacier falls from the plateau to Jostedalsbreen: Odinsbreen, Torsbreen and Lokebreen.

The hike to Austerdalsbreen is a medium-hard hike, suitable for adults and children. The hike takes about 6 hours, back and forth, and the starting point is Tungestølen, at the front of Veitastrond.

Here you will also find Tungestølen tourist cabin, which was opened by HRH Queen Sonja on September 6, 2019. The original tourist cabin, which had stood for over 100 years, was destroyed by Hurricane Dagmar in 2011.
